New Debian configuration tool released
New Tool should make Debian Installs easier
September 23, 1999
Currently, when installing Debian, each package installed asks its own set of questions via a crude interface. So the person installing might have to provide the same answer a few times to several programs, and the choices are not laid out in the most user-friendly fashion. Debconf aims to get around this by sharing the answers between different packages as they are installed and by having much nicer user interface graphics and features.
Debconf also promises, as a future development, network installs using a database of config info to make setting up clusters of machines easier.
