OSDL Seeks To Be Linux Center of Gravity

Raising a Ruckus in Beaverton, Oregon

August 21, 2003

It's hard to follow Linux news lately and not hear about the Open Source Development Lab (OSDL).

Wide-eyed fans and businesspeople alike turned toward Beaverton, Oregon when, on June 17, OSDL announced that none other than Linus Torvalds was coming to work for them, full time, on the Linux kernel. Soon after, on June 30, Brian Grega, formerly of both MontaVista and LynuxWorks, was given the new position Director of Business Development.

When OSDL announced on July 1 that Linux kernel maintainer Andrew Morton had also come on board full time, exclusively to maintain kernel 2.6.x through its usage cycle, one got the distinct impression that some interesting things were happening at the lab. Fortunately, it didn't take long to catch up with OSDL CEO Stuart Cohen to find out more.
