How many Linux integrators do you know that have been around for more than a couple of years?
IDEAL Technology Corporation just celebrated it's fifth anniversary and topped $1.0 million in sales for 2003, according to Jordan Jacobs, a principal of the company. That, from a 12-person team that does pure Linux consulting and no reselling.
Indeed, one of the reasons for IDEAL's success has been that they are not tied to any one version of software or vendor. Keep in mind that they deploy only Open Source and Linux based solutions, focusing on a strictly consulting business model. "From the beginning, we've always refrained from being resellers," said Jacobs. He said that they've always wanted to remain unbiased and be able recommend the best solutions for their military, scientific and business clients.
The Orlando-based Linux integrator provides worldwide clients with expertise in system integration, development and education.
The company's name started out as an acronym for Integrated Dependable Equipment All Linux (I.D.E.A.L.). Since then, the current definition of Integration Development Education All Linux, more aptly describes exactly what the company is all about.
IDEAL's client list reads like a Who's Who of the high-technology crowd. It includes such names as: the IEEE, Toshiba, the US Army, SGI, Lockheed Martin, IBM, and HP/Compaq. Although they're beginning to specialize, they have handled all types of jobs from kernel development, through system administration, to networking and everything in-between. Jacobs said that the team offers "soup-to-nuts" solutions and "eats, lives, and breathes Linux."
