Volution: Promising Solution, GUI Not Quite There Yet - page 5
A Volution Overview
You're probably wondering how I could have any issues left to mention! There are a few, though, that don't really fall under the installation or configuration end of things. I went to try the Webmail feature (Figure 4), for example, which I consider one of the biggest boons to users and even traveling admins, and the only feature that didn't work for me was trying to compose a mail message--I call the browser crashing without even an error message a problem.
Some might also be concerned to find webmail enabled by default, but of course if you don't want it, disable it.
Email backup and restoration has obviously been well thought out, as there are manual methods included for smoothing out the process. It would be nice if such an important function was integrated into the package itself. On the other hand, since there seems to be no way to script or automate many of the features handled by the GUI, perhaps it's not a bad thing to allow backups to be handled by third party applications.
Another issue is that of one of the spam-protection measures. By default, Postfix blocks all BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) messages from being delivered, since they are not directly addressed to the recipient. However, I know that I use BCC as a quick method of contacting clients without letting every client see every other client (and more importantly, without revealing email addresses people may not want known). I'm not the only one who does this, and so I'm torn over what to think of blocking BCC mails. If you have any thoughts on this I'd be interested in hearing them, write to me.
Finally, and this is a bit nitpicky I admit: once you've installed the
Volution Messaging System, the full help documentation is available for
every user on the Linux box when they're in the GUI. This seems a bit
sloppy to me and potentially dangerous, as it lets people see what
files they might want to break into if they want to mess with the mail
