Pixel Image Editor Gives Graphics Goodness - page 2
When you go to the site and download this tool, be sure to choose the correct architecture. It's too easy to accidentally grab the PPC Linux version instead of the x86 one. Once you have the proper file downloaded, create a directory for it, move the tarball into the directory, and then unpack the tarball. For example, you might type the following if you downloaded the file into a Downloads subdirectory in your home directory:
cd ~/Downloads mkdir Pixel mv pixel* Pixel cd Pixel tar xzvf pixel*
You then need to make the resulting file executable. The quick way to do this is to type:
chmod u+x installpixel32
To run the installation routine, type:
The Pixel Setup dialog box appears (see Figure 1). Choose your language, then click Next to proceed to the License Agreement dialog box (see Figure 2). Read the license, click "I agree with this license," and then click Next to continue to the "Registration or evaluation" dialog box (refer to Figure 3). In this dialog box, enter your name, organization (if applicable), and your email address. If you want to go ahead and buy Pixel, click the Purchase button and walk through the purchasing process. Otherwise, click Next to move on to the Target Directory text box.
In the Program text box, or using the Browse button, tell Pixel where to install itself. Also, change the Pictures location to where you typically keep your image files. Once you have made both of these changes, if you don't want to create a shortcut icon on your desktop, uncheck the "Create shortcut to Pixel on desktop" box. Before leaving this dialog box, you can click Components to choose which package components you want to set up, and then Apply to return to the Target Directory dialog box. When you're ready to proceed, click Start. The Installation Completed dialog box appears. Click OK to close the dialog box. Run this program by changing to its installation directory and typing:
Rather than having to do this each time, use a menu editor or create an
icon on your desktop or panel. If you are missing certain libraries, the
software will inform you.
