Status Report: Chandler Desktop and Server
Usage

Paul Ferrill
Tuesday, January 22, 2008 09:59:22 AM

One of the things you'll see from the start is the organization of items in Chandler (see Figure 3). Using the concept of a Dashboard as the central focus, Chandler attempts to present information to help you order your actions according to a defined process. Chandler uses the Getting Things Done (GTD) methodology created by David Allen as a model for information processing workflows. In plain English, it means you apply a set of rules to categorize and deal with new inputs as they appear whether it comes in the form of an e-mail or a telephone call. You then use a set of fixed "to do" lists to process and accomplish the things you need to get done.

So the burning question on everyone's mind must be, "Is it ready for prime time?" The answer at this point is a qualified yes. There are enough good points to at least consider using it for a small group or project needing to collaborate around a calendar. As far as totally replacing your current e-mail system, it definitely isn't ready for that job as of yet. The necessity of using more than one application for e-mail and calendaring is probably enough reason for most casual users to stay away.
