You should already have installed Nxclient. If not, return to the NXclient section and follow the instructions.

NXnode, and NX Server binaries are downloaded from the NoMachines free edition Linux download page.

Install NXnode
# dpkg -i nxnode*

Open /usr/NX/etc/node.cfg as root with a text editor:
# Specify the TCP port where the NX node SSHD daemon is running.
#SSHDPort = "22"

SSHDPort = "54322"

Install NX Server
# dpkg -i nxserver*

Do initial setup for NX Server

NX Server supports several *nix distros.
  • redhat RedHat 7.3, 8.0, 9.0, AS, ES, etc.
  • suse SuSE 7.3, 8.x, 9.x, etc.
  • mandrake Mandrake 9.2 10.x, etc.
  • debian Debian Woody 3.0, Unstable, Ubuntu, etc.
  • solaris Sun Solaris 8.0, 9.0, 10.0, etc.
  • fedora Fedora Core 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.

If you have one of the listed OSs, try an OS-specific install command before trying to change cfg files. Substitute a distro name from the above list where appropriate.

/usr/NX/scripts/setup/nxserver --install debian
Now stop, you'll have to get ssh running to get NX server working. What you did above among other things, creates the directory from which sshd_config will be getting its ssh keys.
