Linux Top 3: CoreOS Goes Stable, Oracle Clones RHEL 7 and Tails Updates
1) CoreOS stable
CoreOS developers have finally labelled one of their releases as being stable and production-ready. CoreOS is a purpose built operating system that is optimized for Docker containers and high availability.
The stable release is tagged as CoreOS 367.1.0 and includes a Linux 3.15.2 kernel and the Docker 1.0.1 container release.
2) Oracle Linux 7
Oracle Linux 7 was officially made generally available on July 23, providing enterprises with free alternative to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7. Oracle Linux 7 is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7,which was released on June 10.
While Oracle Linux 7 is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, Oracle executives are always keen to point out there are differences. The biggest difference is the simple fact that full compiled versions of Oracle Linux are freely available to anyone to use without the need to pay for subscription support.
Oracle also provides support for the Btrfs filesystem as well as the Xen hypervisor. Red Hat deprecated support for Xen with the release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and Btrfs is still considered by Red Hat to only be a technical preview.
3) Tails 1.1
The Tails Linux distribution hit its 1.1 release on July 22, providing multiple updates for users of the privacy focussed operating system release.Tails, which is an acronym that stands for The Amnesic Incognito Live System. The Tails 1.0 release debuted on April 29.
Though there are multiple bug and security fixes in the release, security researchers have alleged that there are more flaws yet to patch, specifically in the I2P anonymous network, which is a support feature in Tails.
